Speedy Finish For Diamond Charity Dash

Speedy Finish For Diamond Charity Dash

Diamond Interiors Project Manager Nick Kennedy showed his fleet of foot with a stunning performance at the Great North Run.

The 40-year old joined forces with friend Ashley Irlam to tackle the world’s most famous half marathon in order to raise much needed funds for The Christie.

Kennedy has been rasing funds The Christie for a number of years raising more than £6,000 to date and his latest efforts added a further £1,500 to the coffers for this inspriational Manchester based charity.

Nick said: “The Christie is a wonderful charity, a charity close to my heart as unfortunately we have lost family members and close friends to Cancer. We have to beat this disease.

“The peoplle at The Christie do wonderful work trying to help people with Cancer and supporting those affected by the loss of someone to Cancer so if I can help in a small way I’m delighted.

“The Great North Run is a great way of raising sponsorship but I’ve also done the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride and other charity events, it is the least I can do.”

More than 57,000 runners tackled the 13.1 mile Great North Run over a course stretching from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle out towards the coast in South Shields with live TV coverage provided by the BBC.

Kennedy couldn’t quite keep on terms with eventual winner Mo Farrah who won with a stunning 59 mins 22 seconds but he did finish safely in the middle of the pack with a time of 2 hours 30 mins, 28,191 out of 57,000 runners!

Nick said: “I was happy with the run, it’s some way behind my best time of 1 hour 45 mins in 1999 but a minute better than the last time I did it four years ago. To be honest, unless you are Mo Farrah the time doesn’t really matter, this is about raising money and having a fabulous day with great people.

“The weather was stunning, unbroken sunshine all the way round and probably a bit too hot but you can not complain about the conditions and all in all it was a wonderful day.

“I’d like to thank everyone who sponsored me and raised much needed funds for The Christie, it isn’t too late if you would like to donate, just drop me a line via Diamond Interiors and all contributions will be greatfullly received.”

Nick has barely had time to breath since joining Diamond Interiors let alone train for the Great North Run with numerous projects and the giant task of coordinating the Diamond Interiors move to new headquarters in Wigan.
