Kidds Transport is a respected, family-run haulage business based in Lancaster. Formed in the 1950s, initially serving the dairy and agricultural industries, the business has continued to grow and flourish, providing transport solutions across the UK’s road network. Due to the flood damage from the heavy floods in December 2015 in the Lancaster area Kidds had a requirement to erect a new headquarters at their existing site.
The Brief —
After an initial consultation with Diamond Interiors, the client understood the importance and benefits of separating the shell build from the fit-out of the building and treated the project as two separate phases. Once the shell was erected, the building was handed over to Diamond and their fit-out partners, Opus 4, to design, manage and deliver the Cat A and Cat B fit-out and furniture package.
The scope of work included dry-lining and partitioning to all walls, to form management offices, meeting rooms, boardrooms, toilets, social space areas and a front-of-house. Suspended and feature ceilings were installed, a full scale mechanical and electrical layout, including power sockets, LED lighting, voice and data cabling and heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Once the fit-out was complete, Diamond delivered and installed high quality seating, desking and storage, along with meeting room, reception and social space furniture locally, from the Senator Group.
The Result —
Nick Pollitt, MD of Diamond said: “Working with Kidds Transport has been a pleasure. Despite the many advantages of separating the external shell from the core, Cat A and Cat B build, most businesses still tend to employ a construction company to go beyond their areas of expertise and manage the fit-out process. We were able to demonstrate how we could save Kidds Transport money and deliver exceptional value. We were particularly pleased to be one Lancashire business partnering another and using local suppliers throughout the project.
